  • Saving seeds,

Hello every one, My user name is efiLdooG, just happened to stumble upon this great site looking for information on potato seeds that have come up on my potatoes. I am wanting to save seeds out of my garden this year, have not done so in the past but want to do it this year. I have many tomatoes planted and okra, 4 kinds of beans, all bush. Yellow squash, zucchini, patty pan squash, bulb onions. peppers, eggplant, cucumbers, carrots and potatoes. Also I have tried to plant lima beans only to have ants carry them off as soon as they germinate. Any ideas how I can deter them? Also my onion bulbs, some of them have toppled tops, should I leave them or pull them up and use them. This is really a great site and I will love investigating all the fun articles. Thank you.:

potato seeds ie the little green tomato-like fruit which sometimes grow on top of the potato plant are a pretty specialised subject, as almost everybody grows potatoes from small ones saved from the previous year ie not true seeds - I'd suggest extensive googling to find a site with dedicated info is your best bet on that.
Lima bean carrying ants is outside my experience but at a guess would it be possible to sow them paired with a more robust seed like a broad-bean, which if they germinated together would anchor them in the ground ? the unwanted companion could be nipped out later.

Yes to taking up the toppled onions first, when you want to use them - no rush, but they wont grow on as much as their un-toppled brethren.
