  • Hello everyone

Hello my name is Paul and i'm in St.Ives in Cambs,

We're in to our second full season on our allotment so relatively inexperienced growers but learning fast. Plenty of questions.
It's been a tricky season so far with the lack of rain and the lack of time (one&three year old girls) to water.

Looking forward to getting useful advice from you guys to help me along the way.

    P

      Welcome!

have you planted any soft fruit yet? our small boy loves rooting through the raspberries and blackberries

It means we don't get many, but it does mean time for watering.

        Hi Psy

        Welcome to the Vine.

If you haven't done it this year think about mulching your plants. Nab neighbours grass cuttings, spoiled hay/straw bales and spread it around the beds to shade the soil from the sun and stop it drying out.

When planting big plants like squash or courgettes, take the top off a pop bottle and cut the bottom out. Bury that so that the now opened bottom is just above the soil and the top is down under the roots of the plant so that you can then water through the bottle straight to the roots.
