  • Stuff to sow and grow at the end of September

    Hello!

As some of you may know I've just taken on a plot at our local allotments and I'm in the process of clearing it. I've got half of it done and want to get something growing while I finish the back half. I'm away for a fortnight at the beginning of September, so wouldn't be looking to do anything until after then. I was thinking of garlic, lettuce, and maybe onions. but would anyone else have suggestions?
The trouble with having an open mind, of course, is that people will insist on coming along and trying to put things in it.

You’re losing daylight rapidly from September, so not much

Why not chuck some green manure in before you go away- then dig it in october and plant some soft fruit November onwards?

Yes, sow green manures now, but they won’t be ready to cut until spring ... which is good ground cover to suppress weeds - which WILL be growing fast all autumn !

Thanks both, I think I'm going to go down the green manure route.
