Hi all,
Apologies if I'm in the wrong place. Feel free to scoot me along as appropriate.
I hope any other underachievers (due to health, inclination, circumstance or anything else) will join in and share their small victories.
I've had my allotment for a little over a year. I admire those who put in the work and whip their growing spaces into shape. However, my plot is not an overnight success story. It has some weeds and ornamentals from the previous tenant that have not been cleared. My water butt lacks a reasonable setup to funnel in water. The handmade bean trellis, while still standing, has been worrying plot holders sitewide since its arrival. I'm expecting my first baby (hooray!), which meant I lacked a certain motivation and constitution for getting out to water during our surprisingly hot, dry summer (sad trombone sound effect).
But!
I've had limited growing experience in the past. This year, we've eaten blackcurrants, strawberries, CFB, tomatoes, potatoes, courgettes, chillies, basil and oregano that we've grown. We enjoyed daisies, petunias, marigolds, nasturtiums, cosmos and malope that I've grown from seed, plus numerous bulbs. We've planted fruit bushes and trees that will hopefully provide in the future. We've started covering the paths with membrane and not lost any ground that we've cleared. Most of the usable, not overly shaded land is a-ok for planting and will soon be covered over with the contents of the compost bays and that magical black plastic. Progress has assuredly been made. My plot neighbors and committee have not taken up their pitchforks to run me off.
Celebrate with me your successes, Grapes. Please don't leave me hanging as I feel embarrassingly pleased to have saved some of my own flower seeds for the first time.
