Composting spuds?

I don't put spuds (or peelings) into my compost any more - was forever having to pluck volunteer sppuds out of different beds...
Anyhow, I'm now getting fed up of spuds blocking my watering can spouts (I chuck them in a weed bin/brew to rot - they don't always break down a great deal though it does seem to make 'em inert) when I dip-fill the cans from my weed barrel.
Does anyone compost them without issue? If so - whaddayado?

I think they'll most likely end up in the fire bin... Mrs B eats a lot of spuds (and buys even more)

I chop whole spuds through at least once if possible and they go in the lotty compost which gets hot (lucky to have a regular supply of rabbit poo). The dalek at home is full of worms, they love the peelings.
Could you drown the spuds then compost them.

Best place for them - on the fire.
Peel, drain and put on fire to "keep it in over night"


You just need a "good eye" for a potato to grow

i am with you on this one. i am constantly digging them up. i have tried all sorts, even the chickens wont eat them anymore. so i am open to any ideas

Potato peelings here get cooked and fed to the chooks.

You're not supposed to feed kitchen waste to chooks so I suggest you peel them and cook them outside


Any rotten ones go into the green recycling bin and not into our compost. Just trying not to introduce/spread yet another disease into our soil

DP...we have 12 chooks. Some hate the peelings and others love them. Funny things eh??

The peel is the best bit so we don't remove it, any weird bits do go in the compost bins finely chopped but its very rare that we get potatoes growing from them.

I put them into my Bokashi compost bin. It seems to kill them off and also makes them "unattractive" to vermin. Then put the bokashi in the soil to improve it.
