For Preston, Lancs Allotment Holders

Hi,

This is really a message for anyone who has an allotment in Preston, especially Penwortham Holme West and East.

When I went to my allotment on Saturday morning, I discovered that someone had stolen 2 savoy cabbages. They were covered with mesh and weighted down, but someone took the mesh off and dug them up.

I've been told by the commitee that they have their suspicions. So, if you see an old man with white hair and a white beard riding around the allotments on a bike, he's a thief (well, probably)!

I nearly quit my plot because its not the first time I've had plants stolen and its so maddening seeing all your hard work just disappear, but its something I love doing, so I'm not letting it get me down.

Allotments are supposed to be grow your own, not pick someone elses!

OMG! That's so annoying!
How about a leccy fence round your plot!
I seem to remember on the news in the not so distant pass some old guy that was banned from all the local lottie sites for stealing, cheeky sod!

I was thinking man, er I mean, bear traps! Rabbits, rats etc are annoying but its in their nature, but protection from human beings seems ridiculous.

I used to have a padlock on the gate to my allotment but had to remove it, as I injured myself leaning over the gate to unlock it!!! 12 months later I'm still having physio for scar tissue! Only hurt for a minute but a month later I developed huge internal infection from a blunt trauma injury to my gallbladder. Allotments are dangerous places.

On our site it's a regular occurance, people work hard growing veg only to be taken by someone else. We are going to change the lock on the gate, most people thinking it is an ex-plot holder. Personally, I think if you have had a plot, you would know the work involved and wouldn't take off someone else's!
