  • I could cry with frustration!

Our council have just started a new scheme where a whole bunch of allotments is up for grabs at once and it's 'first come, first served' - I've just received my offer, only I'm at home with a house full of sick children (and not feeling too clever myself) so I can't get out to have a look and bag a plot!

There are 4 full plots and 3 half plots on offer. I've looked at the area on Google Earth but it's hard to be certain exactly which plot is which. Plus I don't know how old the pics are!

Do I just take pot luck, ring up and say, 'I'll have that one'? Or do I wait until I can look properly over the weekend (assuming we're all better!) and thereby risk them all having gone?

I don't want to land myself with a nightmare but nor do I want to miss out altogether! Argh!!!

I've come to take you home."

Phone them now and ask them to tell you what they can about the plots to help you decide. Better, I would have thought, to have a plot that is not quite the best than to risk not having one at all.

      Claire,

Sorry to hear everyone is poorly.

Geat news about the allotmant though. Can you not ring the council and ask if there is a deadline?

Or do you have a neighbour or friend that could pop over and look for you, just give them a list:

      No weeds
      Good plots next door
      Good neighbours
      Near water source etc

      Maybe some piccies??

At least you won't get whats left!

Good luck and let us know how you get on, Mandy

Sorry to hear the family are feeling poorly Claire, hope it doesn't last too long. I'd say ring the council, find out what you can and then bag one anyway. If you wait, and if there are any left, you'll get the dregs anyway so you might as well make sure you have one. Mandy has a good idea as well if you can get someone else to go look for you even better. Good luck!!
Life may not be the party we hoped for but since we're here we might as well dance

          Well, crisis over... sort of!

I can see from Google Earth which of the plots are in the more easily accessed, more worked looking area, so I thought I'd ring up and bag one of those, only to find the allotments lady had gone home for the weekend!

Even though it means I won't be able to stick my name on anything till monday, nor will anyone else. I'm tellling myself it's unlikely that seven other people will have had time to get in ahead of me but I'll be on tenterhooks all weekend now!

That was really good advice to ask more questions and/or get someone else to look though! I think I'm a bit overwrought/overtired cos what remain of my braincells should really have thought of that! Lol! Hopefully we'll all be a bit more chipper over the weekend and I'll be able to look in person.

I'm so excited though! How will I sleep between now and monday morning!?!

Bit of a long trip though

It's the City of Lincoln Council.

Aaahhhhh..... the posh side of the East Mids.

Perhaps I could breath alcohol fumes on you down the phone... no. Ok.

All the best to your family.
