I'm sure I read somewhere that Waitrose sell some quite unusual eating spuds. Thought it might be a potential source for one or two to grow in buckets. My nearest one is a bit of a hike though, so if anyone can tell me if I'm right and even better, what varieties they might have, that would be brilliant. I'd be a bit mifed to get there and find they've only got the basics! I tried looking at their online site but it wouldn't tell me!

I'm registered with Waitrose Cirencester, as we had a holiday in a cottage down there once, so I've had a look & the only interesting ones are Red King Edwards, Shetland Black, and 'FortyFold' (never heard of those, it says "one of the oldest known potato varieties first grown in 1836 and reintroduced by waitrose in 1990. purple skinned and creamy fleshed, its buttery flavour is excellent baked of roasted ").
Hope that helps?

Yes, it does, thankyou Have some Shetland Black but the other two sound worth a walk.I was feeling part of the scenery
I walked right out of the machinery
My heart going boom boom boom
"Hey" he said "Grab your things
I've come to take you home."

Trouble is different size stores stock different things, why not give them a call, they always seem very helpful. I see 40fold are on offer - £1.39/kg.Last edited by smallblueplanet; 14-01-2008, 02:51 PM.To see a world in a grain of sand

I probably will ring them next time the weather looks decent enough for an expedition. It's still good to know it's something they'll probably have, so I don't sound a complete numpty!Last edited by Seahorse; 14-01-2008, 02:54 PM.I was feeling part of the scenery
