Hi all

Just to say Hi to everyone out there. I have recently took over an allottment in Sunderland. Nice big greenhouse and shed but unfortunetely the rest is a bit of a state. Got some nice sleepers to make some nice raised beds but going to take it nice and slow for the first season. I will post a pic soon.

Hi Kristofer, welcome to the vine. Dont do what i did which was to dig the full lottie in one go. I ended up with a bas back. Clear a small patch at first maybe for spuds then you can move on to another bed. Anyway, good luck.

Hello Kris (fellow newbie), and all others :O) We have just got ourselves an alloment and have been advised not to do it all at once. With the help of a rotorvator we have cleared about a third. We have also been really pleasantly surprised at what else we have found starting to shoot up from the bit we haven't done anything with. We seem to have inherited a large field of daffodills and strawberries so are very intrigued to see what else makes an appearance further into the seasons.

Making a raised bed or two is a great idea - there's a lot to be said for getting a few short rows of crops in now (under cloches to be on the safe side). Watching things growing will help motivate you to keep going back and making more beds, planting them up as you go.

best of luck with your new plots - if you get a chance to take some pics it would be great to see a few 'before and afters'!
