i have brought some scorzonera seed and carnt wait to grow them! i'd love to hear what you think about them if you have grown it before, i reckon its gunna be tasty..
kind regards wayne
I grew them last year... they are still in the ground. I pulled one up to have a peep, but it was no thicker or longer than a carrot. An anorexic carrot at that. By the time I'd peeled it there'd be nowt left. Not worth the bother I think I won't do them again.

I've grown it in the past and plan to again this year. It's a bit fiddly to prepare (not too bad really) but worth it for the lovely buttery flavour. You need to take care when digging them up as the long roots can snap if they are just tugged out of hard ground.... but don't let that put you off, highly recommended!

I've grown them for the last couple of years. Very easy to grow direct from seed. Unfortunately my husband didn't recognize the foliage last year and weeded them out.
i'v just been reading about them on the net and apparently the russians grow it for its latex to make rubber and contains upto 40% latex... wow... is it bad for us to eat latex? haha also learned its a member of the daisy family cheers wayne
Latex in scorzonera... That makes sense actually. They can feel and make your hands very sticky after peeling them, I'd imagine that's part of whatever the latex compound is. Despite this, I think they are delicious!

and guess what I just did ... dug them up with a spade and snapped them all off leaving the root in the soil. They are big ole things though, not like that first one I tried. They are sitting in a bowl rinsing now, I may even eat one later on.
