  • The Great Experiment!

I always grow spuds in those big blue plastic butts cut in half. Weed membrane on soil, tub on membrane, potting compost and muck in bottom etc, etc. Last year I dug up most of my spuds, but left 4 tubs with the spuds still in (tops shifted). Tin sheet and a bit of carpet over the top, tied down and ignored.
This morning, having run out of spuds from last year, I decided to have a look at my experiment. The compost was bone dry, had sunk a little, but from 5 seed spuds, I took 30 lbs (ish) of Maris Piper. Bit of scab on a couple and a slug hole in one, but otherwise perfect.
Tonight for dinner, I had 2 lamb chops, a few sprouts and some lightly minted new pots with a bit of butter on.
    Isn't life wonderful?
    Sorry, I'm just showing off!
    Norm.
P.S. There's still about another 90lbs of spuds in the other 3

      Great stuff!

Had the tubs acted like a sort of storage clamp then? I presume no water could get in?
I was feeling part of the scenery
I walked right out of the machinery
My heart going boom boom boom
"Hey" he said "Grab your things
I've come to take you home."
