bad news, good news

well bad news first. my new allotment has been vandalised!!!! We went n sunday only to find the glass vented window and louvre window of my greenhouse had been smashed by thugs into tiny pieces, hubbys tools gone from shed,wood for repairing smashed into three and composter side torn off. all in the name of fun.
I am devastated as its my dads greenhose who passed away last year and we lovingly took it down without breaking it and then transported it over twenty miles to use just for some little blighter to do that. When i rang y allotment secretary he said 'oh' .
I was appalled and decided that as a female who would go mostly alone or with a 4 yr old little girl down there i was goig to look elsewhere as noone has spoekn to me either since getting it. I always thought allotmenteers were a friendly welcoming bunch like here but obviouly mistaken.
I rang the local council regarding another and found the site i was on it very prne to vandals (nice to have been told that before ) but have now found a new on , closer to home and with a whole housingblock looking over it and the secretary living in block so she can see 24/7. she was really nice and the plot altohugh smaller and slightly more money needs a lot less doing it to so i feel a lot safer.

Good luck with your new plot Jools, hope all goes well and is a darned sight better than your previous one. I'm guessing you'll be taking your greenhouse with you?

I was a little disappointed with the "social" element of our allotment, and by that I mean people coming up to talk and such - not wild parties every weekend. However, there are now a few people that will come over and have a chat now(one in particular that you can't seem to get rid of once he starts, but hey ho).

Sounds like things have worked out for the best in the long run, just a shame you had to go through that rubbish to get there. They do say, to truly appreciate the good, you have to of experienced the bad...

Sorry to hear that Joolz, if you mention what happened on Freecycle you might get replacements for your tools (not that it would be the same).

You didn't actually mention you had, so do make sure you report it to the police and insist on an incident number. They may try and fob you off saying you don't need one, but once you report an incident you have a right to one.

This makes sure that it goes on their statistics, which is the reason they try to persuade you that you don't need one, using the fact that you probably can't claim on any insurance policy as the excuse. They won't bother to solve the crime, so it'll stay as 'unsolved' until enough are logged up and you have ammunition to get something done!

Also, on the offchance there are more incidents, it might allow them to build up a pattern and lead them to someone when they eventually do decide to do something.

so sorry to hear the news joolzabb , i really can't understand what these yobs get out of doing things like this ? do they not understand it could happen to them one day i believe in Karma ! what goes around comes around,
they'll get their desserts one day.

Thank you to all good wishers.
I have been to new site again today and my older daughter heel to toed the measurements (due to me leaving the tape measure on stairs)lol. its actually the same size roughly and feel very comfortable there. there feels like good karma. apparently the gntleman died who had it and i feel maybe he will watch over me (along with my dad ).
my little one has bagged a plot with onions in already lol and there is a homemade greenhouse in the middle which has been used for toms.
The council are also due to put up a shed as theyprovide one between two plot holders for tools. whata bonus!!!!!!!
my dads greenhouse is staying put at home where it is safe and can be lovingly restored and used to ful advantage, if only for getting away froom kids for an hour.lol.

Sounds like this is the right plot for you! And the bonus of a shed and greenhouse as well

Put the last plot well behind you, the kids sound as if they are happy and readily "assisting" you and as you say your dad's greenhouse is safe and you can restore it and fill it with happy memories as well as being a well needed bolt-hole.

I know what you mean about being "watched over" my granddad was my inspiration for veg gardening and he died last August, I chat to him whenever I'm out in the veg patch and ask him to just keep an eye on things for me. The neighbours think I'm a bit doo-lally anyway so me chatting to myself is nothing new!
