    Hello

I,ve taken on a really great allotment that I call my little patch of Hevan ok I know its from Disneys home on the range but to me it,s is my HEAVEN . my allotmant is right on the edge of the woods and all you can hear is the peace and quite. ok now for the real world, it was one hell of a mess when I got it last Aug and I have spent quite a lot of time to clear the ground make my beds and sort it out ready for planting now. but I,m really new to this and not really sure what I.m doing, my family have got me loads of books.we have a problem with Badgers, Deer's,. anyway any advice anyone can give me would be great. by the way we have a load of fresh ground coffee beans powder from work can I use this on the alltoment such as keeping the deer of or holding a coffee morning for the slugs or what.ans yes I am mad :-)

Coffee beans may deter the badgers, they deter the cats away from my plot, you will have to fence all around your plot to deter the deer.
Your plot sounds heavenly you lucky thing but sounds like most peoples when they first get it.

Are you shaded? I would do a soil test before planting and see what it is like. Have you manured the soil or fed it with anything?

Good Luck Noreen and Happy Allotmenteering!

      Hello
Yes I,ve manured the whole plot over the winter. I have a big Oak tree on the edge of my plot and that is about the only shade there is. it,s on quite a steep slope so drainge is no problem. I,ve done the soil test and its quite good really. thanks for the advice for the coffee beans, I will start saving them. If I manage to keep the badgers of it will help. the deer will be a bigger problem. :-)

Hi Noreen, welcome to the vine. Its nice to see you are trying to work with nature rather than nature working with you. Maybe you could errect somthing like a scarecrow or rattley things to deter the little stinkies. In the past i have used old video tape that makes a good noise in the wind, its good for keeping off the pidgeons but i dont know if it wll work for deer. Anyway, enjoy your plot.
