  • Tomato Help Needed

    Hi

Can anyone tell me why my tomatoes at the allotment are yellow and not really growing, the ones I have at home are growing well and are green these are in pots.

The allotment tomatoes get watered daily and feed once a week.

    Please help.
    Bye

I think they are getting enough sun as the ones at home are more shaded and doing much better.

        Hello PT,
All the tomato plants that I planted from seed are a good colour with solid growth. I bought a yellow gold one from the garden centre just to try and you can certainly see the difference, yellow stems, lanky and struggling really. Have you grown yours from seed? or bought them in.
It might help to give them a shot of miracle grow once a week. Other than that good luck.

        Regards Charliefred.

It could be magnesium deficiency. Try spraying with Epsom Salts mixed half an ounze of salts to a pint of water. If it is (according to my book) standard feeding makes it worse not better.

Hello Lesley, my tumbling toms which were doing so well have turned yellow. They are covered in flowers but some of them are not really setting fruit. I've been to the chemist and got the Epsom Salts (I really want a bed in an intensive care unit for them) and will spray the toms as soon as the sun goes down. Do you know if they will need to be sprayed more than once and what the chances of recovery are. I'll be so upset if I lose them at this stage. I hope you can help.

Oh, I see DWRudd says spray every day for a week. Will try that. Thanks Daren.

Alice I have been having a read and another recommendation is 2oz of Epsom Salts to a gallon of water sprayed at fortnightly intervals. This works out at double the strength of what my first book recommended. So you have a choice of a weak solution sprayed more often or a stronger one every two weeks. I think I would be inclined to go with the weak solution first.

I'm wth you LJ little & often as they chance is they will use it all up better & you won't get a build up of salts in the soil. What would you sooner have 3 meals a day or 1 huge meal once a week !

I've got the same problem with a couple of my tumbling toms as they're sharing a pot with some nasturtiums which I think are stealing all the nutrients from the soil. So I added some organic plant food and then have been spraying them every evening with a dilute solution of Epsom salts. I think they will perk up after a week or so.
