rental prices

I have just gone on the lottie waiting list. Rent ranges from £24-£56 per year depending on the size, and £10 for water. Do you think that is reasonable? It's only 3 mins walk away so no transport costs. Would be glad for your thougts.

I pay £1 per 10sq meter and my plot is 120 sq m so £12 per year, water is included at my site, but someone recently said that if you look at it in terms of how much it would cost to buy what you produce then it probably more than pays for itself but also you are outside with exercise hopefully nice people and peace and quiet I would pay for that alone I would go for it if I were you but maybe just a small plot to start with and then once the bug has bitten take on a bit more. I think to pay between 50p and £1 a week for such a rewarding and absorbing hobby is absolutely spiffing value.

I do get annoyed at paying the same water rates as the guys who have their hoses on for hours at a time though. They can't be bothered to lift and carry watering cans (perfectly able-bodied, just lazy)

£22.50 for 5 poles. and includes water. TBH, I would have taken the plot even if it was double the price, as the pleasure of growing and eating your own (to me) exceeds any money that might be saved. Plus it cuts down on food miles, exercise, etc.

You shouldn't pay VAT on the Rent.

You could be charged VAT on the Water as the supply of it is a service and therefore could be VATable.

Would happily pay more than I do though - as TwoSheds says it's worth it for such a great hobby.

I would definitely pay that much for a plot only 3 mins walk away - mine is only a tenner for a one-third plot, but it's a good 20-25 minute walk from my house

But as everyone says, the cost pales when compared to gym membership at 600 quid a year or more!

I would say thats good especially as its so close just think of the savings at the supermarket.

At our AGM last Saturday it was suggested that the rent rose by £3 per half plot which i think mine is and I pay £13 a year but somebody suggested £5 and i think that is what it will be (couldn't hear very well ) i think that's a small price to pay for such a good friendly hobby.

Well Chorley Borough Council HAD been charging about £3-4 pounds in VAT each year until I got involved last year, they realised they should be charging us and I got advice off of Alan Hull, ARI and got it stopped. Made the council give us a free years rent and anyone that wanted to claim their VAT could do. So this April.......we start paying without VAT.

I pay £37.50 per year but only had plot since end of feb so it £31 ish for this year, but going of what people have said here, mine seems to be pretty expensive, in comparison.

But id pay double if i had to, this is my second lottie and its worth every pennie

£25 a year for 9 meters by 14 meters, and we didn't have to pay in the 1st year as it was in a mess. Water is included. Also, we're at the end of the row so have almost as much again that we can use at no extra cost.... if we ever get on top of the main bit we have.

£78 a year for us in N.E.Lincs which seems a bit of a rip off but I share with an old friend which halves the expense.

Still expensive compared to what a lot of you lot are paying but as others are saying.........its worth it as even though we haven't had loads of produce yet.....I just love the escape of getting down there alone with my little wind up radio and even find the act of weeding very therepeutic.
