  • Lottie Book for Beginners???

My lovely father in law has been lucky enough to get a lottie and its his birthday next week, so I just wondered if anyone can suggest a good book suitable for a beginner? I've already planned to get him a subscription to GYO, but I don't imagine that'll arrive for a couple of weeks, so I'd like something to give him on his actual birthday.

The Allotment Book by Andi Clevely would make a lovely pressie - lots of gorgeous photos for inspiration and plenty of practical advice too. Its been on offer at Waterstones recently (£3 off).

And I agree about the Expert books being great - although they're not as visually appealing!

        Hi

I love the Vegetable Expert by Dr Hessayon.

I have had lots of book brought me and they are nice to look at but I found that each book as different information and it can get quite confussing if you are a beginner. So as I started with Dr H and I have stuck with him.

My FIL gave me his copy when I first got my lotty and then Hubby got me the pocket version which is great to take with you to the plot.

I like Caroline Foleys books, The allotment handbook and How to plant your allotment. Only because they give a monthly guide on what to sow.

I bought the Allotment Book by Andi Clevely for my son and son-in-law who are both starting off this year. They have found them very good (and I wish I'd bought 3 copies!)

My sister gave me The Allotment book by Andi Clevely 9 months before i got my lottie inside she wrote ' Happy Birthday Jackie 2007 We look forward to the crop pickings ' I sent her a text saying ' and I look forward to you cooking them ' as yet no crops but wait till I do cos I will invite my self for a meal.
By the way its a very good book .

Jackie - it might be worthwhile to have a look through the Grapes Recommendations Board as there have been a number of similar questions and quite a number of recommendations.

                      Hi
I'm only a beginner too, and the two books I find the best are, the vegetable and herb expert as above, but also I managed to get The Allotment Specialist by A & G Bridgewater, I think I got it from Amazon....It's well worth a read, very simple and full of info

                      Happy Reading
