  • Planting out...

I just thought i would start a thread to see what people are planting out at the moment.
I have been leaving my courgettes and tomatoes out during the day, in readiness for planting at the allotment (hopefully) in the next week or two...
    (I live in South London)

I put 5 toms out yesterday and have had a courgette out for a couple of weeks; so more started going out yesterday. The sweetcorn also went it [first batch].

I've only just sown my sweetcorn and squashes. The greenhouse has been full of broad beans & peas up till now, waiting for all that nasty cold weather to finish.

Well, maybe - maybe not. I get away with it because we have a courtyard which doesn't frost as much and our main garden backs onto a canal; again I think the temperature there is often a little warmer.

I always put a few out early, on the off chance that they make it. Plus, I succession sow anyway, so if one lot dies I have others in reserve.

I've had tomatoes out in the day, but back in if it's windy or raining hard (like today!) and they're in overnight.
Like Two_Sheds I've only just sown sweetcorn, squashes, pumpkins & courgettes. And my first sowing of beans have just started going out to be hardened off - it may be 2 weeks or more before they're out unprotected - the majority will be sown over the next couple of days. No panic to get stuff planted out yet

Bollox to the frost - I'm am starting to plant out young tunnel raised plants this week regardless - although I do not believe I will see another frost this year anyway.

I've checked the 10-day forecast and there's not a frost in sight so I'll be planting out some squash and courgette plants later. Beans and peas are already out. Due to blight during the last 2 years, my tomatoes are staying in the greenhouse.

I have nothing out yet ecxept spuds, onions and root crops. The beans and brassicas won't be ready until the end of the month. The greenhouse is up and running with the usuals and the polytunnel is full of seedlings which will (hopefully) be ready in three weeks.

Courgettes, marrows and butternut squash germinating in greenhouse at the moment. 100% germination on the courgettes and I sowed 2 to a pot, so I'll pot them on individually. Runner beans and french beans likewise - got caught out last year and raised them far too early, the only things that survived the miserable weather was the runner beans so being cautious this year. Tomatoes and chilli peppers doing well. Maincrop will be in the greenhouse but I'll put some on the lottie too (hoping to miss the dreaded blight this year)

Just back from the allotment. I took my courgettes and a couple of butternuts, but my neighbouring expert farmer recommended i wait a week or two, so have brought them back
But to be honest i reckon they could do well, as i cant see any frost hitting in the next few days (?)

You can always put an upturned clear plastic anything over the top...or just put one in and see how it does.

My toms that went in on Saturday - the trench method so the leaves are only an inch off the ground - are all looking perky indeed. If there was any frost danger; I'd pop some fleece on but I think you'll be okay as nothing forecast for the immediate future.

As long as you harden them off beforehand, they should be fine.
