fire ash

today i emptyed the ash out of the fire bin into the compost heap , is this ok to do or will it harm the soil structer when i mix it in next year ?

I understand it is OK, but ash of BBQ briquettes is not.

Depends what you are burning. If it's just wood ash then it's beneficial but other materials can be toxic, i.e. coal, chemicals in/on wood?

Indeed wood ash is good /coal bad. But I don't bother composting just chuck it around flowering/fruiting plants.
