Dont know if I have posted this in the correct forum - appologies if I havent. Last year a friend spent time drawing out my garden plot to size and this year I put into a spreadsheet and it looked really professional. Trouble is I have ended up making so many changes it all seems faintly ridiculous to have gone to the effort in the first place. The changes were mainly because things ended up either failing or in the main coming on quicker than I thought so just had to be planted where there was space at the time. Is this the norn or do I need to get my act together for next year? Could anyone give advice next year if I posted my plan for comments etc?

    Frustratingly yours!

Previous years I scribbled a plan of my small back garden on a piece of graph paper, in pencil, then rubbed out and changed it continuously. This year I planned it to the nth degree as I had the time (being on "gardening leave") - I had excel spreadsheet planting lists, used a graphics package to draw up the garden and plot where everything was going to go. Like you I found that things changed almost daily and wondered if it had been worth the time spent. But I ENJOYED the time I had spent planning and even though the professional looking result now looks like every bug in the garden has crawled across it, I feel it was still worth it. That's the nature of gardening, things keep growing and you have to change your plans continuously. Next year, I'll do the same again, and wonder if it was worth it... it is, it's FUN, enjoy the planning and more importantly don't worry about things not going where you had planned for them to go... Welcome to the real gardening world. Doesn't matter how well planned it is we all end up sticking things in wherever there's room.

that's why I have a book and not one sheet of paper; I had replanned my lottie 3 times before I even put one plant in the ground. As long as the main crop rotation is followed and I don't plant brassicas or toms/pots in the same place within 2 years I am pretty chilled about the plan.

Still doesn't stop me during the cold winter months though.
