wobbly carrots

You may think I don't know what I am doing well you could be right.
New problem. We have grown Early nantes and Resistafly carrots both have done well and we have started to lift them, but after a few hours they go limp and wobbly. What am I doing wrong,

Are you lifting them in the heat of the day and letting them sit in the sun?
A good tip for carrots is water first then lift a few hours later in the cool of the morning when they will be plump firm and at their best. Remove green leaves and place carrots in bucket of water in shade until you can get them home and store.
When storing use slightly damp sand to bed them in boxes and store in a cool dark place.

Jaxom, how do you know what the right dampness for the sand is ? This is going to be a really vital question for me, most of my vegetables are going to be stored in sand in a bin so as to be kept handy...and I cannot afford to lose the crop. ("Heat or eat" this winter, unless I keep 'em fresh. )

Hi Snohare, why not freeze them, then you have no worries about keeping them in top condition.

Thank's Super Mod, it worked, water before and pick in the evening. When we got home we washed and dried them (oops the best tea towel is now not the best) then straight into the fridge, they are keeping ok for a few days.
The rest of the crop is going to be blanched and frozen
