Greenfly on my Broadbeans

Can anyone help l seem to have a rather bad case of green/blackfly on my beans and am trying not to use chemicals.

They are a pain, aren't they, bally?

Your best course of action is to chop the tops of the plants off - this is more delicatedly called 'pinching out' if you catch the infecstation early, as soon as you see the blackfly.

It's not foolproof, and I've waded in with the secateurs with mine to chop the more severe cases off.

You could always spray with soapy water but that's not foolproof either.

I've had blackfly worse this year than I can ever remember (well, me beans have it, not me!). I spray with water with a drop or two of washing up liquid. It seriously deters them but you have to do it frequently. Decapitation works too - of the beans, not the blackfly, although that would work if you could be bothered.

i made some of the garlic tea up and sprayed on,but i did forget to dilute it lol,it got rid of the green fly in the green house after a couple of goes,also did the broad beans at the lottie,i squished with 1 hand and sprayed with the other,also i have what i now call EVIL BREW,nettles,garlicand rhubarb leaves,by ekk does it honk,people recone it can be smelt coming up the path,i went mad with it and put it on most things,my second lot of beans are completly free,the brasicas only have a small amount of grey afhid,and very few tiny slugs,hope it's not a fluke

If they're black ... you get it.

My blackfly almost disappeared from my broadies, after a couple of days squishing them. A new lot have just started to appear on my Frenchies, so I am squishing them before they start really multiplying. I've got a few ladybird larvae on the plants too, which is going to help a lot.
