Winter/Summer crop rotation system

Bear with me (I've had a difficult day)...

I currently have onions, shallots and garlic that will be ready fairly soon for picking.

I have just ordered some over-wintering varieties of onions etc. Where should these be planted?

In the same bed (assuming there is room) as they are currently in? OR
In the new bed for next year's onions etc?

I am confused!

I wouldn't plant the overwintering onions till about Oct, and I'd put them in next year's roots/onion bed, as they will be in situ till about next June/July.

This is the problem with over-wintered onions... If I put them in next year's onion bed, there isn't room for spring planted onions! So I have to have 2 onion beds on the go at once - Over-wintered onions go in after my maincrop spuds are harvested, then spring planted ones go in where my winter brassicas have been. Once the over-wintered onions come out, they are replaced with leeks keeping the same family in the bed for a year. It would be easier if my beds were bigger!

Will get my (rubbish) plan out later and work out where things are going! Have got leeks in for autumn in my current onion bed, so they'll have to stay there...

But (thanks SarzWix) by the time the over wintery onions arrive, the maincrop spuds will be cleared... oh god, it's so much more complicated!
