  • Pumpkin Problem!

Any advice on the pumpkin front from anyone?

Had mine in for a while now and growth seems incredibly slow - not even a flower yet!

This appears to be the case for a couple of others on my allotment aswell.

Most of mine are doing really well~but as yet no sign of any Little Acorn fruit I know there's plants in there & managed to find a few plants in the pumpkin jungle that have only flowers so am hoping that's them & that it's not too late for them to start producing!
Frana~just noticed your post was a couple of weeks ago~any flowers yet?

Mine were miserable as anything til I put a bit of fleece over them for a week or so. They're doing fine now, but my squashes are pathetic, and I took the fleece off them

Hi Frana, there is just no sense to any of it. Have 2 pumpkin plants next to each other, one has a tennis ball size pumpkin, the other has nothing, not even any more leaves than it had when first planted Am not holding out much hope of a harvest!!

            ANDI & DI

Not been on forums for a while and still no joy!

Same with the others on the site aswell!

I will probably pull them up and plant some charlotte pots instead!

Will give it a bit longer and keep you informed!

Hope all you other guys have better luck!

i planted mine in june, not big enough for flowers yet, but i sowed them as instructed for harvesting halloween, i'm sure 2 1/2 months will be long enough to get some.

I direct sewed some Pumpkin 'Becky' and Squash 'Sweet Dumpling' back in June and my pot grown ones died the moment I planted them out!

I now have two Pumpkin plants which are starting to get much longer and show signs flowers, but out of 10 Squash seeds sewn only two germinated, and those plants only have a pair of seed leaves each! I don't hold out much hope for them at all!!

We didn't even have any sweet dumpling germinate!!~they're my fave in a curry as well!!we've got a few varieties we've not grown before this year that are doing really well,so hopefully they'll make up for the lack of S.D!

Our pumpkins are rampant, but the butternut squash are really struggling, every time I see them I consider pulling them up, but then decide to give them a few more days. This is only the second time I've attempted to grow either and last year I'd set them out a day or two before the floods and they were literally washed away. This partial success has really inspired me though and I shall be asking for recommendations for other varieties later in the year (it's pointless asking now as I'd have forgotten come seed order time.)
Into each life some rain must fall........but this is getting ridiculous.

This bizarre weather must be playing havoc with all the crops this year - they get spring, summer and autumn all in one day - I really don't hold out much hope at all for my Sweet Dumplings!
