  • Self-managed association subs

We are a self-managed Association now fr about 8 years and recently have had issues about the level of rent we have been setting. We are charged a discounted rent by the Authority onto which we add an amount for insurance plus working capital for site improvements and Association development/activities.
If you have the same arrangement in your authority can you tell me if there is a ceiling that is placed on the total subs you are alowed to set or are you allowed to go as much as you wish above the discounted rent you have to charge each member to pass onto the authority.
    Thanks

Our tenancy agreement from the Council who own the site stipulates we aren't allowed to charge more than 50 per plot unless we seek dispensation from the Council.
Our charges are set at 40 at present and because our metered water bill has come in a bit cheaper (because of all the rain we've had!) we should be able to keep it the same for next year.

I have no idea about how the rent is broken down or if there are any limits set by the council, but on our self-managed allotments we were charged 44 for a full plot this year. We have water, a shop and 'pub' on ours - not sure if that makes a big difference to anything?

Cor, I like the pub idea. The Gardeners Arms no doubt!

I'm interested that you have a pub! Does this mean you sell alcohol ? Is this allowed in the terms of your lease? Sounds good to me!!

Must admit........we have a sort of private club! About half a dozen of the local blokes have a couple of plots betwen them. They keep their plots tidy and can be seen coming and going with carrier bags full of cans of lager. I suppose it's cheaper than giving money to a pub landlord.
They have built a hut with with sitting out area where they play cards and you can hear the rattle of domino boards all day. I think they wore out six boards last year.
They are never any bother, all have wonderful tans and because they are there from dawn til dusk act as unpaid security guards for the site.
