  • Is there anything I can sow now?

I got my lottie at the beginning of June and started off by preparing 4 beds and got them planted up to give me something to keep me going while I got the rest of the plot sorted. I put in some potatoes and loads of sweetcorn in two of the beds, then I planted out some PSB, spring cabbages & courgettes I'd started off in the garden in another one and then in the last one I just did a kind of mixed bed with chard, carrots, fennel, beetroot and other quick growing stuff and I've had fairly good results (not sure how we're gonna cope with 32 sweetcorn plants that all seem to have 5 or 6 cobs on em!!) but now the rest of the lottie is in fairly good shape (i.e. weeded, dug & raked) I was wondering if there was anything I could put in now for cropping over the winter? I wasn't sure if its too late for potatoes or any other winter veg. Can anyone advise me?

well, potatoes aren't a winter veg at all. They're grown in the summer, dug up & stored for winter use.

you can sow over-wintering (Japanese) onions soon.

Just sowed another batch of spring cabbage yesterday! Still have leeks to plant out along with PSB, various kales and winter cabbage.
Still have japanese onion sets and garlic to buy and plant. Will also sow broad beans and possibly peas!

        I sowed this week
One batch of beans [quick growing - just might get another crop before the frosts but I might be pushing my luck as always].

3 types of winter lettuce, kale, january king cabbage, kohl rabi, some basil [again pushing it but will scoop it up as soon as it is a few inches high and freeze], japanese onions.

Dug up some onions and shallots yesterday, the small onions are going back into the lottie as my own grown sets, the shallots and the recently dug garlic [large cloves] will go back in before the onset of frosts for next summer; and I'll also sow another round of carrots and leeks and move a bunch of leeks to their final position this week.
