  • Caterpillars!

Had a few days absence from the plot last week and on my return all appeared well except my purple sprouting.

Upon close inspection I noticed that a massive population of caterpillars had decided to move in and practically decimate the lot!

I have noticed a few on my Brussels aswell - the cheeky buggers!

They are a black colour with what look like thin greyish stripes.

As me and my family have to eat, and what the credit crunch and all - I don't really want to be feeding these little blighters, so any hints and tips on how to rid my plot of the rascals! Never had them before and would very much like them to do one ASAP!

    Cheers all!

Hi Frana - the caterpillars seem to be a problem this year if the number of threads on the subject is anything to go by!

There's plenty of excellent advice given by the grapes to be found on other threads which you'll find if you do a 'search' on caterpillars (or spelling variants thereof - I've just had to go and get the dictionary!)

here's an older thread on the subject: http://www.growfruitandveg.co.uk/gra...ent_21422.html (use your Search button for more, or look under the Pests & Diseases forum)

or on Google: BBC - Gardening - Advice - Non interactive Pest and Disease Identifier

They are really numerous this year.
