  • Stump killer

I need to kill 2 fruit tree stumps, I know my dad used copper nails but I think thats long term solution.
Can anybody recommend an alternative that might work a bit quicker ?

There’s a product at the garden centre that’s called tree stump killer,I used some about twenty years ago, can’t remember the brand tho. There’s some online, check the reviews

There are various stump killer liquids you can buy. Usually you drill holes in the top face of the stump then pour the liquid into them.

If the diameter is less than 6 inches, though, then it may be easier (and certainly cheaper and a more permanent solution) to simply dig it out. It's not as hard as you might think, although admittedly it is easier if you leave 2 feet or so of trunk to use as a lever.

There are stump killers in the garden centres, as said before you drill holes in the stump then pour the liquid from the sachet into the holes and it certainly kills it. If they are small enough stumps its worth digging down and cutting the roots and getting the main bit out else cut down to below the surface of the soil if the stump is larger and then cover it and let nature, microbes, water and time rot it down.

          Fruit tree stumps rarely sucker.
They will only need to be ground down to soil level.
We removed six trees that were prone to suckering with trunks almost a foot across by digging up.
It took several years to get rid of all the roots and suckers. It was in the late 1960s.
