Grrr....people who don't clean up after their dogs!!

The last 2/3 times I have visited my new allotment (not planted up yet but rotovated and cleared) I've discovered an interesting collection of dog poos dotted around the verge directly at the entrance to my allotment, where I park my car, and one or two actually on the allotment itself (gap in fence). Not happy, especially since I had a walk around and, yup, my allotment is the favourite place for doggy doings.

Not allowed to put up notices on the allotment. Does anyone have any suggestions on changing this situation?

I think as dog faeces is a potential health hazard then if you speak to the lottie supervisor you should be allowed to put up a notice of some sort.

I might have to put one up anyway if it were me.

It's not right that people don't clean it up afterwards.

People that don't clear up after their dogs are discusting. The strange thing is that there are some dog owners who will clear up if the dog does something on the pavement but not if it is on foot paths through fields and such like.

Although it is in no way funny you might be able to get away with a notice if it is slightly humourous. A little lane near our allotment site has a sign which reads:

PLEASE PICK UP AFTER YOUR DOG AS IT DOES NOT TASTE NICE WHEN FLICKED INTO MOUTH WHILST STRIMMING.

How about some pepper around the entrance - that should deter them! You'll know which dogs have been near your plot as they'll be the ones sneezing! As a lottie holder and dog owner you have my sympathy. How about talking to the local Dog Warden? As Janeyo said it IS a health hazard so I'd try them or your council Public Protection dept. If its a council run site they should put No Fouling signs up or you could request that dogs are not allowed on the site. Is it other lottie holders' dogs or outsiders? A word in the owners ears might pay dividends if you can catch them!

So, at the moment it looks like a doggy loo?
Try making it look NOT like a doggy loo - can you dig up a border and plant with flowers (when it gets warmer)
Make the area look lived-in/used, so that people think twice before letting their animal cr@p there.

Set up a solar-powered security light, so it comes on when they're doing the do

Most of the good ideas are already there. My likkle lottie is at the end of my garden so I don't get dogs. However, we do get foxes. Don't know if the cure is the same, but I sprinkle the way into my garden with bottled man-pee Grow Your Own - Growing, How To Grow Tomatoes Growing Fruit & Veg - Recipe Advice, Organic food Gardening, Chickens, Seeds for Sale of he who thinks he should be obeyed. He won't sneak out at night for me in case the neighbours are watching. LOL

I've been promised an official council "No Fouling" sign by the allotment secretary although I noted her comment about not being sure how long it would stay up "knowing what dog owners are like". Hmmm..

Full of sympathy - disgusting behaviour

I am a dog owner and I have no sympathy for those irresponsible dog owners who do not "pick up". If you have a dog it goes with the responsibility of ownership to clean up after it. Sadly it is the moronic, selfish owners at fault here.

Now, how do I stop my neighbours cats emptying their bowels under my bay window - cleaning up after other peoples pets is so irritating.

When I visit my disabled mother at weekends my first task is to clean up her front garden of cat poo as it really bothers her. It's in the borders and on her ramp up into the house. Yuk!

When she was mobile her gardens were her pride and joy,probably where I got my interest from, but the whole cleaning up after other peoples animals is wearing a bit thin these days.

Other peoples dog and cat mess is disgusting - owners should be more responsible.

We have one cat owner at the moment,trying to find out who, who is throwing the contents of their cat litter tray on the footpath at the entrance to our local woods. How bl**dy ignorant and selfish is that?

It's the ignorant owners that need educating.........

Its so annoying when people allow their dogs to foul wherever they feel like it. We have had (still are) people allowing their dogs to foul. They 'poop' outside the gate of my allotment, along the driveway and outside main gate. Its disgusting if you dont see it and stand in it.

I reported the dog fouling to my local council who came out and spoke with people from the houses and local plotholders, we eventually sussed who it was and they were reprimanded. It seemed to stop for a few weeks but now winter is here they have started again.

I am a dog owner and always carry bags with me to clear up my own dogs mess and sometimes others.

I would mend your fence, put red cayenne pepper down, speak to your lottie officer, they can send letters out to local householders and plotholders and speak to the dog warden at the council. It can help.

I'm a dog owner and an allotmenteer and I can't imagine what makes people think it's fine for their dogs to do that. Would they like it if someone allowed their dog to foul their front garden? I think not. Sadly I don't understand the mentality that seems to think that there's a difference.

A few years ago I had a neighbour who was so fed up with a local dog owner allowing his dog to pee on his railings (he lived in a basement flat) that he waited for him one day and told him that if it happened again he would follow him home and pee on his front door step.

Now there's an idea ...........

Don't quote me on this but, if a dog fouls and you don't pick up you can be fined if caught, however a cat can foul wherever it pleases, it comes down to one of these silly laws from way back that cats are classed as vermin and as such will foul where ever they please.

No lynchings as its just what I've been led to believe ( correct me if I'm wrong ).

No laws for cats, we (used) to have 2 that used my herb garden as their litter tray. I stopped them by pouring my OH's own pee around, I also handed my neighbour her cat poo in small bags, then I installed a motorised owl, they hate it........makes me laugh.

No, I think you're right KTM250. As I recall (my brother told me this when he was at law school, so it's nearly thirty years ago) A cat is not thought to be able to come under the control of its owner. So if, for example, a cat causes a traffic accident then there is no come back on the owner, but if a dog does the same then the owner can be prosecuted. Similarly bites and scratches. There's also a really silly law that says if you put up the traditional 'Beware of the Dog' sign, then this implies that you knew the dog was dangerous, so if it bites you'll feel the full force of the law, if there is no sign and it bites then you can claim that it has never done it before and both you and the dog will be dealt with more leniently. This is the total opposite to what most people think in that a sign which has been ignored by someone does NOT mean that you've done all you can and any problem is therefore their own fault.
