"Giss a job" "I can do that" Black country series was it Yossa Hughes? Something like that i think. back in the early 80's or something. If i remember rightly his faveourite weapon of choice was his forehead :-)

now thats an allotmenteer to steer clear of.

I think it's like the Scots "Gie's", as in "give us". It's not made up, I know lots of people who use it all the time. Giss a break. Giss a kiss. That sort of thing.

"Gissa job" - phrase used by Yosser Hughes in "Boys from the Blackstuff" - excellent drama by I think, Alan Bennett.?

This is tricky isn't it. We've just taken on an allotment and there are pathways between each plot. When we were shown round the Secretary was really helpful and told us which plot-holders were likely to get upset if we used their paths. Luckily all the plot-holders that surround ours are cool about it but we made sure to ask them, as a matter of courtesy more than anything.

Personally we go to the allotment to escape from the stress of everyday life, so I'd be tempted to speak to your neighbour and ask if they can stick to walking on the boundary. Maybe offer to water their plot when they're away, if they can see you're a good neighbour maybe they will be inspired to be one too.

Maybe I'm just having an optimistic moment...

Birdie wife is right with the explanation.

In London you'd hear 'Giss' quite a lot - meaning give us... so Snadger was asking - "Giive us(me) a job Adam"

Whaddya fink? You gonna giss a job too?

                        Sorry.... being stupid now!

But if someone walks on my feilds or the allotments they won't come out alive I can tell you
Nothing like a landmine for turning the soil and adding bonemeal all in one go....
Of course, Geordies are all natural miners aren't they ?

Now all the dusy has settled, I thought I would add my two carrots worth.

A good way of broaching the subject of missing vegetables without directly accusing an Individual is to ask them if they are experiencing the same problem, this should be done in a friendly caring way showing great empathy for all allotment holders.
This lets them know that you are aware that your crops are going missing.
If they think (innocently) taking the odd lettuce, onion or carrot that an allotment owner with an abundance of crops will not mind or miss any crops it may stop them (if they have a concience).
They may have been taking crops thinking no one has noticed.
This may prevent a old style stand off across the mean growing fields.
I was raised with the principle that if you want a friend first you have to be a friend.
Hope this helps the human species acting like humans and not pressure cookers.
