New to all this allotment stuff

Just taken over an allotment which has been badly nelected. I lost my nine year old in the tall grass ( not a bad thing ). I had a look over a few threads and have gained some valuable advice.
I am waiting for the local council to cut back or remove two large trees, they have no idea when this will happen. so i have decide to work on a small area at the front for the moment and cover the rest with manure ( luckly my daughter rides so have a hugh supply) and then cover with black poly.
What I am looking for is does anyone know where I can get a galvanized fire braizer from, as I have been told that I can burn the weeds, but I am hestitant about up setting the neighbours with a large fire.
any advice will gratefully recieved

Hello ally and robkb. If Wilkinson's don' have one you could try B&Q, 'bout £20.00 I think they are. Usually come with screw on legs but if you don't get those you can just pop it up on some bricks to raise it above the ground.

congratulations on loosing your 9yr old Bad luck about the lottie The only flaw I can see in your plan is they will provbably drive ofer the bit you clear to get the trees out !

I would start off by just clearing the undergrowth (you may have some more 9 yr olds in there & want to get rid PDQ !) then youcan measure up & start to plan things, by which time the council may have reemoved your trees - they're not fruit trees are they just out of interest?

If not see if you can badger them in to making a start (I assume no money has changed hands? If it has I would ask for a rebate as you can't get on till they have done their bit - verbal contracts are binding

I cant really complain to quickly as I have had the key for 2 weeks now and don't have to pay up until 1st Jan 2007.
One of the tree is over 20ft high and a spreads over half the allotment width, so that is being removed completely. The other is a budilea which is going to be just cut back so I can keep it under control.
It wasn't until I started looking for the rear marker so I could get my boundaries sorted i went behind the budilea tree to find a whole area that i didn't know about and appartently is on my side of the line.
The best bit is I work for the local authority and my desk is near the man who is in charge of the site, so I keep walking past him just to remind him about the trees.

I too have had the good fortune to take over a badly neglected plot so bad you can't even get on it for brambles, the entrance is just a wall of them. sorry can't offer you much advice but lets hope we get some replies that can (any offers anyone) have you made a start on your's yet I am of to start hacking my way into mine tomorrow

Hi All
Walking past his desk every day has had the desire effect, He has had my trees cut down.
So now not only have I got to now clear the brambles i now have three trees to clear as the council definition of taking trees now is that they are no longer vertical but horizontal but I have had a lot of people asking me for the trunks for their fires at home ( help your self please)
I'm going to start clearing the brambles this weekend so if you don't hear from me soon can someone send in a search party
