I compost all of the shavings from my snake and lizard cages and it rots down real fast mixed 50/50 with grass clippings, never get rats in the shed or compost bins either as the smell of snake frightens them off!Last edited by snakeshack; 21-01-2009, 12:46 AM.don't be afraid to innovate and try new things

I thought you weren't meant to compost cat/dog litter because cats are carnivores? Rabbits are herbivores so their poop is the same as horse/cattle etc. But other small animals like hamsters, reptiles, rats, etc. are omnivores/carnivores so their diet includes meat. I'm also not sure about snakes/reptiles also as is there not a salmonella risk there?
I'm not saying you definitely can't but might be worth a bit of caution before just adding any old animal waste to your veggies.

no ones mentioned cat litter, or dog poo ...... though you can buy composters for those, as you can for human poo. the only real danger from cat or dog poo is from worms, so as long as they are wormed regularly there isn't actually a problem composting it.... or any other kind of poo for that matter
