Silly Questions - The Allotment DVD

Can you help answer some silly questions I have.

On The Allotment DVD, David seems to be cooking, at the end of several shows, on a brick looking construction and I would like to build one.

Do you think the bricks were cemented together?

Do you think it would work without cement?

Do you think charcoal is used for cooking?:

Any help on construction gratefully received.
