Quick Question for Tomorrow - Would this be Wrong?

I'm being put up before the commitee on Thursday to see if I'm allowed to become a member of our local private lotties.

Now, my mind if on overdrive and I'm gagging to get backthere to take some phots, take another peek at the plot (to take another check of the shed and plot condition) so I can start think ahead of this weekend when I'll be going to down to start clearing it...

I happen to ahve tomorrow off work... would it be wrong if I popped down to see if they'd let me in to measure up / take photo's and anther look? I don't want to do the wrong thing before I've even got the plot, but I'm reeeeaaaallllyyyy keen.

I don't know Shortie. On our allotments we don't like strangers roaming around for security reasons. Taking photos and measuring the plot might look as if you assume that the plot will be yours. You don't know if any committee members are on the site watching you. I would wait until Thursday when it is definately your plot. Tomorrow draw yourself a rough planting plan. Write down details of how you might clear the plot. Take these with you. Show them to the committee and ask their opinions especially on clearing it. Blind them with your knowledge! They would far rather give the plot to someone who has a good idea of what they are doing than someone clueless.

Ta. I won't be seeing them on Thursday, they will just call me to say that I've either got it or not. I've rawn some rough plans (really rough) but didn't think to measure up or anything last weekend, so have become 'stuck' with plans etc....
I did wonder if they'd rather I wasn't in there as I'm still not a member yet.

I'll sit on my hands until Saturday (that is hoping I get an 'its yours' on Friday)

I can empathise with you shortie....I have been promised a plot on our allotment site. It has two greenhouses and the rentee has paid her annual rent until the end of April but has said she is not coming back!
I have been up and had a look at the plot and would dearly love to get cracking, especially with the greenhouses. I have to go past this plot to get to mine and its doing my head in that such a plot should go to waste. I have approached the site secretary and told him I would be prepared to cough up a bit more if I could get on with it now! He has lost her details and has no way of contacting her! All I can do is wait and see if and when she contacts him. The whole plot is a mass of weeds but I feel sure that if I could just get my hands on it I could have it, and the greenhouses up and running for the main spring planting.....I know how frustrated you must be, and I am sure everything will work out fine for you.....Its just the dammed waiting innit?Grrrrr. ..Good luck Shortie

Ask if the lady has definately quit & ask the committee if it's ok if you offer to give her the rent so she hasn't lost any money then you can move straight in.

I'd offer my services as council for the defence Shortie but I'm in meetings for two days, but my rate are very reasonable

Already done that Nic, but the Secretary can't contact her because he has lost her contact phone number. I have only been on the site since May and don't want to be seen to be stirring things up! I have told the Sec I would gladly pay the rent for the rest of the year and offer her a bob or two for the greenhouses (which she inherited with the plot) but can only wait til she makes contact with him.

Yeah your'e probably right, but I have been club secretary for various organisations before and you usually find someone takes the job because no one else wants it, and usually to keep the club/org afloat! He was probably the only one with a telephone at the time!

And NO I don't want his job...the subject has been broached!

Struth LJ, has Mr LJ upset you I have to admit I haven't got the contact numbers for the folks on our plot .... yet. But I sent a man out with a print out of all the plot numbers & a pen So Sunday night is database populating night.

It is usually the case that no one wants the job but everyone moans about it. I started to do a newsletter to let folks know what was happening/plande & they all moaned that it was a month late bloody hell!!! they haven't had one for 10 years !!!

Have you never lost a contact for a member? Either they have changed there phone number or changed there address.

We're starting from sctratch again really. up till this year there was only one person doing anything no one else wanted the jobs so Mick (& Brian before him) just kept things going.

Since we had our AGM we've started to get organised & have a Plot manager (he's retired & is there most days so knows whats happening) 4 people who are happty to run the shop (that we've just re-opened) leaving me to be Hon Sec & Mick as Treasurer. But our first priority was to get things sorted on the site and as a consequence we have no spare plots & a waiting list whereas 4 years ago I had the choice of 10 plots !!
