I'm about to make some seed beds on my new plot and i was wondering if it was too late to spread manure on the area that needs it.

Muriel, Hi - It is not to late to dig in manure. However not all plants grown on the allotment need freshly manured ground each year. What do you plan to grow in those seed beds?

Thanks for your answer.It was most helpful.I want to grow sprouts,onions and leeks for this year.As I'm slightly disabled i'm only getting two beds ready for now,and then i can worry about the rest of the plot.

Hi Muriel,

The onions won't mind if you dig in some manure, but I wouldn't do it fo the Sprouts as they prefer firmer soil not freshly dug. You could always mulch around them when they've been transplanted. just let them get going and don't get it right up to the stems as it might be a bit fresh for them. This will help conserve moisture and keep the weeds down
