Newbie seeking advice / opinions / help! Possibility of an allotment!
You can just see our gas tanks peeping over the trees Lol
Lol!!! Trust you to spot em Nick! Dont forget to pop in for a brew next time you are up here, just let us know in advance and we'll bring an extra mug!
Unfortunately not Nick, the greenhouse belongs to the smaller plot next to ours, its about a third less wide than ours and even so he sint using the back third of it, which is such a shame! He also has been using our plot as a dumping ground for all his weeds, along with the path between our plots, so a bit of tidying to do for us, Mr Dobby is hoping to get that path cleared, edged and barked up on Thursday, unfortunately I'm on a meeting for the next 2 days, so cant help him! Gutted I am, honest! lol!
Hi all, does anyone want me to continue to post what we've been doing on the plot, kinda like an allotment blog, or is this not something folks want to read about?
Please reply and let me know!
Anyhows, until I know one way or another, the latest updates to our plot!
Dobby was down there yesterday (first into the allotment and last off, poor dear!) and managed to dig over one full bed (tho did leave lots of roots behind, despite filling a bin full already) and to clear the other 2 paths of the standing weeds, and start to lay out the wood for the edging strips to border the bark paths we are laying.
The piccies below show where he got to!
The other 2 paths cleared (so Dobby recons!)
Edging ready to go in!!
Next post will have a couple of piccies of where we are up to after I spent the day down there today, unfortunately I had to shelter from the rain for 2 hours, but did manage to get the big veg patch cleared of roots and 4 of the smaller connecting paths cleared and 3 barked up!
Both off this weekend, so hoping to be on the plot most of the weekend, weather permitting! With any luck we will have the paths finished and barked up, then its digging over and weeding out the roots!
You should be proud of yourself Mrs D - you've done a fantastic job in such a short length of time - it's brilliant! I wish I could get my garden done that fast
Thanks for the kind words Martini! We were lucky that the plot had only stood unused for a year, and that underneath the structure was already there, so its not too difficult to make good progress atm! Having said that it also helps when there's 2 of you, and both want to get it cleared asap, before the weather turns too bad, so that we will be really ready for the spring!
Been down there again today, working inbetween the rain, we've managed to finally clear and bark up the last 2 paths, replace most of the rotten edging boards for the beds and double dig our first bed, planting our overwintering red onion sets, so now we finally have something planted! Cant wait to see it start growing!
Both tired, dirty and achy now, so gonna have some tea, a hot bath and a glass of wine before an earlyish night!
Not long got back from the allotment and posted some piccies of the greenhouse, when Earthbabe commented on how far we'd come in the last 6 weeks or so, so thought I'd post a few piccies showing just how far we have come, as it amazed me too when I looked back at them!! The first 4 piccies (in the post itself) are the before, the ones attached are how it looks now!

Reason: Its not 8 weeks like I thought, its only 6 weeks!
Wow! I am very impressed! You have done amazing work in such a short space of time! Well done to you both. Looking so good and you must be VERY pleased! Sharon
Thanks Sharon, we are, tho still a lot to do and we both want to get to a point where we can relax a bit as the majority is done, tho sometimes I feel that just like painting the Forth Road Bridge keeping an allotment is one of those things that when you reach one end you start again at the other! lol
