  • Garlic water?

Hello, newbie here, please be gentle...
Ive heard some people talk of boiling garlic cloves in lots of water, then using it as a spray on veg to deter pests. Has anyone tried this and had any success? xxx

hi there ditsy, yes the garlic water worked for me on our allotment it did keep the slugs at bay , i got the reciepe off a friend at work , it does stink the kitchen for a while but it is worth it in the end as it is organic because i used the garlic i grew on my allotment
it was 5 cloves of garlic to 1 litre of water boil for 5 mins until garlic squashes in your fingers put garlic through a seieve then refill water to 2 litres then put it in a plastic bottle to use put 2 tablesoons of liquid in a watering can full of water and water in the ususal way.

Works on most insects which hunt by smell & is really good for protecting carrots, but I would recommend using slightly soapy water as a carrier as it slows down the rate of wash off. I have heard of people using it to deter slugs and snails but have not had a lot of success personally. Then again my slugs aren't bothered by copper or moats either!

                Regards
