The point is, poo is poo. It is all biodegradable, eventually (otherwise we would be neck-high in the stuff).
As others have explained better than I can, pathogens are destroyed during a good composting process. The problem with the Olden Times, and in developing countries, is that the faeces is not composted .. it is raw.Last edited by Two_Sheds; 19-02-2009, 12:22 PM.All gardeners know better than other gardeners." -- Chinese Proverb.

I suppose I could ask for it to be changed
I was recently on another gardening forum, and really wanted to give some advice on a thread that I knew was unlikely to be given by anyone else, so tried to register. Days passed and I was able to log on, but not to post. After more than a week I was getting pretty narky, so re-registered with another name, purely so that I could contact the forum admin to ask what was happening.
Then both registrations were completed at the same time - fool that I was, I clicked on the final link with both - so I am now known there as....
irritablerodent. For some reason, not many people are queueing up there to request my friendship (whatever that means on a forum).
And having made my debut as that not-so-fluffy-bunny-weirdo, I do not feel I can do a "formerly known as", lest people think I am the artist formerly known as Prince. There's no point reading history if you don't use the lessons it teaches.

There's an interesting slant on all this. If gardeners decide to compost their own 'droppings' and another gardener asks "where do you get your manure?", what do you say?http://norm-foodforthought.blogspot.com/
If it ain't broke, don't fix it and if you ain't going to eat it, don't kill it

Well, this is now a non starter. The compost is still available but SEPA ( Scottish Environment Protection Agency) have ruled that it cannot be used for veg production due to the possibility of pathogens still being present.
End of !
Shame really, especially when I know human sewage sludge is being pumped onto farmland across the UK.Rat
