Organic Pest Control and Plack Plastic

Hi, We are trying our hardest to stay oranic. This year has been hard work.

Can anybody advise on oranic pest control? The slugs loved our cabbage and mot of our leafy veg.

Also, does anybody know where you can by sheets of black plastic? We are digging over and want to cover to stop it turning into a jungle ....again.

Nematodes are about the only organic form of control that works as was pointed out to me the other day by Protea.

As to sheets of plastic, do you know any farmers that do SIlage? the stuff they use to cover silage pits is good. Or you could use a tarp like Shortie or try Plastics by post on the I.O.W they are very good both price & serivice. Or thereis my favourite supplier NA Kays but I don't think they do it in big sheets.

yes as Nick said Nemaslug is an organic slug control (parasitic nematodes that only host on slugs so don't affect any other wildlife), a google search will find you lots of suppliers.

Alternatively garlic granules can work when specifically placed as a band around certain prize plants (but can work out expensive), New Horizon market the amateur product. I find they are good at keeping ants off my chilli plants in the greenhouse!

can't help with the plastic i'm afraid - we've got loads of carpet to use, collected from various sources, doesn't look pretty though and i think there might be some concern about chemicals from the carpet leaching into the soil!?
