Finally been asked for my rent!!!

Was supposed to pay at end of Oct 2008, but no plotholders received notices from the company that owns the land. We all did hear rumours the land was being sold for building on etc etc...(this land has been owned by this company for yonks, has been allotments for over 60 years)
Not knowing has been a massive factor in the lack of enthusiasm I've had lately, but now I know its safe, I'm quite excited about the coming year now. Best get on down there.....

They've only asked for their money 5 months late

How do you figure that...only if you quit I guess.

Did you sign a tenancy agreement?...your tenure and rent will start from then whenever you may pay. Don't know what covenants might apply to the private site or if the council would give planning permission. Still they need to give notice.

I went the first three and a half years before I was asked for any rent...even then I had change from £20!!! really it just covered the water bill.

Things bit different now! Our rents run from April. If someone starts in the Autumn I don't charge for the first part year.

I got my plot at the end of Oct 2006 and rent is paid for the coming year, not the one thats just been. I got first year free because it was so overgrown, paid for year 2 at end Oct 2007, and have been waiting for the notices for this years rent for ages. I did ring the company that owns the land to ask when they wanted rent only to be told they would ask for it 'soon'! That was back in early December.
No tencancy agreements were ever signed, the only contact I got was after the fire making sure everything was ok and the yearly rent notice.

Not that I'm aware of. Some of the old boys have had their plots for 40 years. The chap nearest to me said they once went 3 years without being asked for any rent at all. Because its not a council owned site, I think they are not as organised about it as a council would be.

You need to check if the year starts now when you paid or back when the rent was due in oct.
I got mine in sept 07 and had to pay the full rent then when the bills came round again in oct 07 I had to pay again for the year ahead, I queried it but it was right, not that it bothered me as at the time it was only £14 a year.

We are paying the full year from when it should have started back at the beginning of Nov.
I don't mind, its only £24, and I'd rather pay and know where I stand than not.
Got a row of onions and 2 rows of taties in this week. Feels good
