Shallot sets not sprouting...

Hiya

I'm growing Shallots for the first time this year. I've planted them in the same way as our onion sets and they still haven't sprouted - they've been in the ground just over three weeks. How long does it usually take? I have a feeling they've just died.....

I'm glad to know too. I was wondering exactly the same about my shallots, they've been in 3 weeks now and not a single bit of green yet. Won't be long!

If you try and pull one out you'll find a lot of resistance from the strong root system they are building up before putting on any top growth!

I planted white and white onion sets in modules in January. The white are great and have big shoots - the reds looked dead until i pulled one out the module and seen that it had loads of roots. They're going in as soon as poss!

Patience is a virtue - they'll come true.

My shallots are the same, in a few weeks now and still no sign of any greenary.
Glad to know i'm not the only one.

Mine went in 3 weeks ago and nothing at all .....

Be patient!! If you'd been taken from a nice warm environment and buried up to your neck in cold, damp soil you'd take a while to get going as well.
