I just have to tell someone! I've got an allottment! I went with a friend as she was being shown her new lottie today (she was further up the waiting list than me) and it turned out the lady was going to ring me this afternoon anyway and I've just got the keys to the gate and plot 41 is mine! Its right next to my mates so we can help each other out and there are potatoes, carrots, parsnips, rhubarb, sprouts and cabbages growing there already! Its pretty much overgrown but the potential is definately there.

I'm going to have lots of questions to ask, thats for sure! I'm soooo excited! I have to work this afternoon but am hoping to get up there at the weekend to have a proper look - it was bucketing down when I was up there earlier! Should make the digging easier though I guess!

The only downfall is a small patch of mares tail which from what I've read is a NIGHTMARE! It is only a small bit but whats best to do with it - I gather its roots will be almost in Australia they are so long!

Well done you. What a bonus. I assume it was planted up & then let go soooo, I would

1. Cut down the weeds so the dog can see the rabit as they say
2. Dig up the spuds ASAP otherwise you may loose some to slug damage
3. You may struggle with enough fine weather to give the mare's tail a blast of glyphosphate but try
4. start digging ready for some over wintering onions, broadbeans & some garlic if you can

Then it's too the seed lists for some real retail therapy - all the seed for next year
