  • Annoying day...

I went down to the allotment today and as I was walking to my plot, I noticed the greenhouse had been opened... somebody had taken the contents of my seed box!

I turned around to walk up and see the chickens and MY SHED HAD BEEN BROKEN INTO :-0

Inside - hand tools (hammers, screwdrivers, socket set, nails, screws, cable ties, etc) all gone. Spade, hoe, rake, etc was not touched (they were sprayed with yellow paint). My gas stove had also gone :-(

My rotovator which was in the shed however was not touched nor was the accompanying lawnmower.

I rekon it was people looking for quick carboot sale items for the weekend. However, a few weeks back, a couple of other sheds were broken into - nothing taken... they came back the next night for everything :-0

I moved everything back home with the shed containing just some draws (empty) and some scaffold netting along with a few other pieces of rubbish.

How strange...... It pisses me off though. Only 1 possibly 2 other done that night - will they come back?

For one moment then when I was reading too quickly I thought you meant the chickens had broken in!

I would leave a sign that says ' no seeds, tools etc left here, they all got nicked the other night'.

You'll be off down the Boot Sale Sunday then?

bad luck, mate. What a carppy thing to happen. Yes, they probably will come again, knowing that the site is unsecured and un-peopled at night.

That's a bummer, Matthew! Are you on the same site as Victoria26, by any chance? I know she's only just got her lottie so prolly nothing to nick, but it would be helpful to know that thieves are in the area.

I have also just realised my petrol strimmer has gone and even the f*ckin burglar alarm decided to go walkies.

              How strange.

This chickens weren't touched (yet). I don't know what field Victoria26 is on. I am on Morland Road Allotments.

I'm really sorry to hear all that Mathew. I don't think those people realise the misery they cause other people by their petty actions. And yes, they probably will be back. Hope your chooks are safe and the bandits get caught and dealt with.

A few years ago the place I worked had a shed at the side with tools etc. that the gardener used for lawn mowing (and growing beans, potatoes etc!!).

The factory was on an industrial estate close to council housing and was deserted at weekends.

One Sunday as I sat down to lunch I got a call from the police saying the estate CCTV cameras had spotted the shed was being broken into and asking me to attend - a 40 minute drive away!!

When I got there I found the shed window had been trashed, the door was smashed and hanging by one hinge and the lawnmower stolen. However, the police had caught three 13 year-old lads red-handed and asked me to go to the station to make a statement.

One of the three lads was cautioned but the other two just got taken to their parents. I was very unhappy that I had spent 4 hours dealing with this on a Sunday and would then have to spend time and money during the week repairing the shed.

The police refused to tell me the names of the culprits. However, someone who wasn't me, didn't look like me, didn't sound like me, honest officer!!! managed to sneak a look at a file and write down their names.

Anyway (sorry for rambling on!!) a year or so later the local school arranged for a lad to do his work experience with us and, surprise surprise, his name was very familiar to me. I said nothing and took the lad on.

He was a very polite, well motivated young lad. He impressed me with his work ethic and did part-time work (paid) for me during holidays and worked for me for over a year after he left school.

I would have been happy if he had been my son.

Moral of my story? Yes, it is bloody annoying when sheds are broken into but sometimes it's just bored kids who are looking for excitement in their drab lives. They are not always the scum of the earth and if society organised itself better these kids would have a beter chance.

sorry to hear about it matt.

only positive i can see is that they just took tools that can be replaced (i know it's not the point) instead of trashing the place and burning it all.

like has been said if you need any seeds post it and we'll all muck in

No more shed. I will put my required items in the van and take down on the day from now on.
