  • Shed Is Going

I have taken a hard decision and decided to get rid of my shed.

I am fed up of replacing locks, tools, stoves, etc...... I'll just bring everything I need down in the van (when I get my license).

I can keep an old fork, hoe, spade and rake in the greenhouse. Tea I can get from the 'tea hut' we have on site.

I have put it on eBay and hope someone will make me an offer soon.

But... I'll have lots of room for more veg! I might dedicate that area to a fruit cage, not sure yet though. Any other ideas?

I would hate to be without my shed too, but like jackie, we're very lucky and have not had too much trouble down there. I totally understand why you are doing it though, and the less the idiots find when they come, the less likely they are to keep coming back.
Good time to sell anything garden related, hope you get a decent price for it.

Our allotments has a 8 feet fence with a single strip of barb around it We still have problems with kids breaking into huts but they are few and far between but it shows no matter what you do if they want in they will get in If they cant stones come over the fence directed at the greenhouses We have had to build wooden frames above the greenhouses and cover with netting to protect them

I love my shed, for sheltering in, storing all those bits of plastic and netting etc. Plus old tatty tools (my expensive good tools are hidden around the plot: under bins, inside butts, under netting etc).

I leave a big bottle of water inside the door prominently marked "WEE" to put any invaders off.

I don't lock my shed, so busted locks aren't an issue.

I will have the greenhouse to shelter in and like I said, i'll just keep a few things there and bring the rest down. I am not putting anything back for them to take.

We don't get many vandals on our site, only a stream of thieves (more than likely the same person though).

I'd like to encourage setting up an allotment watch. I've spoken to a couple of plot holders that seem interested so i'll keep you all informed.

The thief new exactly where to go and what he was after. He even took a few shotgun cartridges from my shed.

You keep shotgun cartridges in a shed you know has a high chance of being broken into?

Don't you have to keep them somewhere safe by law?

We have no sheds on site and there for nothing to encourage anyone to break in !
Its easy enough to take a few tools with us and we do have a small tool store we leave some bits in but its never locked.
The only time we suffer idiots is around pumpkin time !
I find not having a shed means we work on the plot and not potter in the shed

sound a bit like a fellow allotment holder has had his eye on your stuff.

if you get any more tools carve some markings or initials in the handles, an angle grinder will do a good job. sad but true fact of the world we live in

I'm just jealous that you've got a tea hut on your site!!!
We've had a few break ins of late, although having broken in to our shed they turned their noses up to our tools & gas stove.

It isn't someone on site because stuff was found away from the site.

The shotgun cartridges were empty!!! lol

Don't you wish you could booby trap your tools the way banks do their money? I'd love to see some petty thief and/or vandal walking around with green hands and a green face......
