Seed potato horror!

OK guys and gals, I need some advise on my seed potatoes. I have 2 lots left to go in and did not read the instruction properly when they arrived and had left them in their box (ignoring the instruction lay ALL of them out). Today I put my frist earlies in, and check these 2nds and main crop to find they have sprouted long pale shoots, like when you loose a potato in the back of the cupboard at home.

So dilemma is are they any good still ? should I knock off the long shoots ? or are they goosed !

Tattieman told me to gently rub off these shoots on a thread somewhere, I did and left them on the side to chit and not in the cupboard and the new shoots were ok now safely planted.

Don't waste the energy the tuber has used in growing them, just plant them carefully "as is".

If the shoots get knocked off the that's life, if not then they are ahead.

What colour and thickness do you think they would be if the spud had been underground all the time, without any light coming through the soil?

They are very long shoots ! does this make a difference ?

Only that you'll need to plant them deep!

cAN'T SAY WHAT SUCCESS i'LL HAVE,BUT i DID THE SAME THING WITH SOME OF MINE...LEFT IN PAPER BAGS UNDER THE STAIRS.
i PLANTED THEM AS THEY WERE,BUT AS fLUMMERY JUST SUGGESTED i PUT THEM A LITTLE DEEPER THAN NORMAL & ALSO EARTHED THEM UP AS SOON AS i PUT THEM IN...STILL PLENTY OF TIME FOR FROSTS,SO WANTED TO GIVE THEM ALL THE PROTECTION i COULD.
pETER...GOOD POINT ABOUT THEM GROWING UNDERGROUND IN THE DARK...YOU'VE PUT MY MIND AT EASE THAT i MAY ACTUALLY GET A SEMI~DECENT CROP AFTERALL!

Potatoes are fairly robust; I've planted potatoes with shoots of all sorts of lengths an had no problems. Don't knock the shoots off, or there may not be any left to take over; just plant them and let them get on with it

You think you have problems! I diligently marked my brown bags with the different varieties as I filled them up at the garden centre. But when I came to chit them I couldn't for the life of me recall if I had listed them on the bag from top to bottom or other way round! Think I may have to bung the whole lot in and hope for the best!
