Help!! Cats....

Apparently something called Lion Poo (or something like that lol) is a deterrant as cats don't like it but not sure if it will do any damage to what you're growing.

Lion poo is available from garden centres

Paignton zoo sells it's Lion poo which is supposed to deter cats. you can also buy elephant poo to fertalise the roses!

Pepper is a fairly humane way of detering cats, it has worked very well for me in the past.

I saw an ad for a cat deterrer (if there is such a word!)

Can't remember exactly what the ad was for - some kind of movement sensitive water pistol - but the spiel said it was "an easy, effective and satisfying way" to rid your garden of cats!

My Feline Foes

I'm just about to plant a load of seed beds, but I have an issue in my garden with the local feline wildlife.
A freshly laid veg patch looks no different to a litter tray to them.

So far I've resorted to netting the new beds as no amount of cat repelant powder seems to deter them.

I understand they probably wont enjoy pinching one out on horse manure, which saves my potato patch, but I'd rather avoid netting the other 3 patches.

Anyone got any genius ideas.
Current considerations include:
- Camping out 24/7 with a supersoaker
- Electrifying my legumes
- Taser!

It is often recommended to stick small sticks in the soil but our local spawn of satan just pushes them aside.

I have to grow stuff for the raised beds on the allotment in modules because the resident fox likes to rearrange my nice neat seed lines - this is labour and space intensive.

There is a plant 'scaredy cat' which is supposed to deter them or perhaps a bag of lion poo from the local zoo!

I sympathize - my own little 'darling' got into the conservatory last night and did her business in three 9" pots containing my peppers....god knows how and probably out of spite because I wouldn't let her out

^ Many thanks. I did search, just didn't spot this one. Never was good at looking for things that were right in front of me.

I saw somewhere that cats can't jump over things, only onto things, so I put chicken wire round an entire bed (size about 7/8 ft by 4ft). So far, no cats have been in there (been about 6 weeks now), but they've been in every one that I put chicken wire on top of.

Hmm, perhaps digging a moat is the answer!

2nd attempt

Before building our raised bed at our new house, the end of the garden was covered in a thick bed of last autumns leaves which served as the local cat lavvy. we cleaned the area & deployed some biological warfare, a combo of orange halves, lemon juice, white pepper & mustard powder. The little blighters didnt use the area again.....until....my nicely raked soil appeared in the new bed.

We have at least one cat back up to its old tricks so we covered it in netting held up by canes about a foot high. this got trampled the first night by a cat which poo'd on top of the netting. Trying the mustard powder & pepper again & will keep posted of the results.

Have you tried Chicken Pellets? I don't know if it does work (someone told me it does) but they don't like the smell apparently.

I got some cow manure last year and spread it on top of the beds without digging in. They didn't poo on any of those until I'd mixed it in a bit. No help now of course....

I was told that the 2 litre cola bottles filled up half with water scares cats away.

HI all. There are 9 cats living close by me and I haven't found a single thing which deters them yet. We bought a sonic scarer and that worked for a while but they soon got used to it unfortunately. I use my pressurised plant sprayer on full pelt and fire it at any cats I see and this is very effective...they now scarper if they see me armed with the sprayer! However, I can't be around all day to squirt the moggies! My brother bought a Scaredy Cat plant and his resident moggy did a poo right next to it!! Cheers.
