allotment rules

    Who do you pay your rent to if it is the council then they make the rule's .
    Our's do and the committee just collect rent and pass it on and let plots to new plot holder's i would check first there may be rules already....jacob

      Lyddington Garden Allotments.
      Rules and Regulations.
      From The Times (Britain)
      November 23, 1872

      1. The land shall be cultivated by the spade only, and proper attention shall be paid to its cultivation.

      2. No allotment, or any part thereof, shall be underlet or exchanged.

      3. The rent shall be due on the 1st of September in each year, and shall be paid before the crop is taken off the ground.

      4. All tenants shall maintain a character for morality and sobriety, and shall not frequent a publichouse on the Sabbath-day. All the tenants are earnestly requested to attend regularly at the House of God during the times of Divine service, with their families, to the best of their abilities.

        5) All tennants not adhering to the rules shall be tied to a tree and given 10 lashes with a birch stick!

              No way would I be happy about anyone going into my shed. As long as the the structure of the shed and appearance is kept then there shouldn't be an issue I'm our sites sec. and I wouldn't be happy about checking everyones sheds etc.

              I think we all have to remember that it's about GYO as long as our members use the plots to grow veg, fruit , flowers and it is worked then there isn't a problem.

              Too many rules can cause more problems - must be lucky on our site as never seem to get any problems

                The reason that I included that rule was to give our committee the power to sort out problems.
                I dont think it will ever be needed, but u never know what people are doing.

                Perhaps if we have this rule it will make people think twice, perhaps I could word it differently, "the power to inspect with plot holder present if allotment rules are suspected of being broken"?

                  Yes that might be a bit better. I'll have to dig out our rules, but I believe there is one along those lines which gives us the power to take ownership of the shed etc back if they fail to keep the plot up
