  • A Question of Diplomacy...

Last year the council bloke came down and re - alined all our plots. I was one of the winners; I lost 9" off the side but gained 6' down the bottom end - supposedly...

Unfortunately the chap who backs onto my allotment (has two) thinks as he has been there forever he shouldn't move. I agree with him and don't want him to move his bean poles but an old allotment next to me has been taken on and the new tennants want everything moved where the old boy's allotment impinges. In order to re align his I have to insist I get my 6'.

I'm very much caught in a corner (literally) - what is a girl to do

I just know it is about to come to a head this weekend and there is only so much hiding in a shed you can do.

Advice on keeping it cool would be appreciated!

Be firm but polite! 6' is 6'! that will help go a long way! Offer to help move his bean poles....
Never test the depth of the water with both feet

The only reason people get lost in thought is because it's unfamiliar territory....

Always remember you're unique, just like everyone else.

You can just do the 'well, I wouldn't do this normally, and I don't really agree with it, but once the councils made up it's mind, there's not much we can do' shrug/attitude, should get him on side, and get you your 6'

Rogesse, I think Taff has a point here - perhaps you could suggest that the other plotholder refers to the council to have it sorted out - or perhaps say something like 'will we get the council to go over the changes again?'

I feel if possible don't take it all on your own shoulders, you didn't make the changes but it's important to get the boundaries organized.

I would be pleased to find out i was getting more growing space but would prefer it not to be the way you will be gaining it.

I agree with the above post that poeple should refer complaints back to the council. I know I would be really angry if I lost some of my plot.

It was never plot lost but being a coward I think I'll let the council deal with it especially as the next door neighbour's seem more than willing to tackle the problem (he's more feisty than me). I also don't wish to fall foul of the allotment mafia (perhaps too late.....)
