  • Don't be fooled...........

By the size of your tattie tops.

I have Duke of York which have huge healthy looking bushy tops three foot high. I also have Red Duke of York with tops that are barely a foot high and very sparse.

There were twice as many good sized taters under the sparse Red DOY than there were under the luxurious DOY.

The DOY weren't bad but the RDOY were more productive.

They are both in the pan now awaiting the taste test!

Sounds like the Duke of York plants put more energy into tubers than leafs.

    did you talk to them?

Well, I hope that holds true for our spuds Snadge because the Sarpos (Mira and Axona) I've planted all have tiny tops so far, despite reading that they usually have massive and unruly top growth... Hopefully it's because they're growing tons of tubers instead...

These were the first I got from my Red DOY Look at these beauties | The Ciderhouse and they tasted delicious. The plants were very luxurious but there are plenty of spuds. The ones in the photo all came from a single plant (which still had more). can't wait to see the anya and pink fir apple.

I love the Geordie accent, His Lordship went to and event with someone I hadn't met before but spoken to on the phone he is broad Geordie and I had him looking like Si King from Hairy Bikers. But no he was more Robson Green but not as cheeky looking

Don't know whether to be worried or ecstatic - my RDOYs are just beginning to flower, and have masses of lush growth. I was kind of hoping to get some tatties....
Oh well, I have other potatoes in other places.

I suppose taste is a personal thing but for me.............. the Duke of York were tastier than the red Duke of York. The texture was also more to my liking with the RDOY tending to disintergrate a bit in the pan, even though both were boiled together.
                    Not much in it though.
I'll try Charlotte next methinks which isn't one of my favourites but we shall see.............
