I was going to grow swifts next year but I won't bother now if they have no taste. The whole point of new potatoes is to get that flavour. I know it depends on local conditions, soil, etc, but what do folks think has the best flavour in a first early. When I find the right one i'll try this second cropping as I can get maincrops cheap enough from a local farm.

Well personally I would hold on that one - my swifts were tasty, the rocket was fine as well, and the lady chrystal was vvgood. My neighbour swears by international kidney. Tattiman sells small packs of try out seed pots for containers - perhaps it is the source that is the issue. I bought international kidney from a well know vendor last year and it was rubbish - and definitely not the advertised variety.

Now cropping Charlottes - enormous things which died back very early .They are pdgood as well. This year I added manure to the soil and I think it made a difference. Don't know if the clay made a difference though - it holds water well.
