  • The council have done it...

They've cleared my second plot and it looks fab. A big patch of earth rather than a big patch of grass and weeds. Can't wait till spring now when I can actually plant something in it.

Cool! Thats great news Bex! You got all your plans sorted for it yet? Are you putting in raised beds, paths or what? Let us all know what you are planning on doing with the space!

        Thanks Nick and Mrs D

I'm not having raised beds as it is too much hard work for me, I'm on my own you see. I was thinking of having a main path down the middle with beds on either sides with a small path between beds. This is what I have dug on my first plot which I decided to clear myself and I'm two thirds clear now. I think the plots are about 9m x 17m each although I'm not that organised as to have planned what goes where, I will keep the main groups together but thats as far as my planning goes I'm afraid. I'm the sort of person that could plan something but it all goes out the window anyway.

What wonderful news Bex! I think you've done really well over the past few months! Can't wait to hear all about the things you are going to plant - and the results of course! next year! Dexterdog

            Hi Bex

I "do" my plot by myself too. I have split mine up into 9 beds down the middle and have long beds down each side. My plot is an odd shape as I am on the edge of the site. I have used landscape fabric for the paths (it was a freebie). I find it so much easier to tackle one bed at a time and I don't need to walk on the soil very often.

Good luck with your plot(s) it gets quite addictive

Jlottie, your plot looks fantastic and much the same as I would like mine to look.

I'm enjoying the preparation, the digging and ordering seeds so far, I just hope my lottie is as productive as everyone elses seem to be.

                Ta Bex,

I thoroughly enjoyed clearing and digging mine too, that was 3 years ago. I can still find plenty to do - roll on spring though

Pic was taken a couple of weeks ago and is looking a bit bare at the moment.

I'm just envious of all that lovely space.............

Some of us live in the past, always talking about back then. Some of us live in the future, always planning what we are going to do. And, then there are those, who neither look behind or ahead, but just enjoy the moment of right now.

Which one are you and is it how you want to be?

                            Hi Woodfettler!

Congrats on the new plot! We only got ours 11 weeks ago, and like yours it was deep in weeds (8' in our case!), but some concerted effort on both our parts has now got most of it clear and dug over ready for the planting come spring! It is hard work clearing, but worthwhile, very satisfying! One tip I'd share is to tackle it little and often, and then you'll be surprised how quickly it is done! Also dont try to do too much at once, if clearing it all is going to be a problem straight away, then cover it over and leave it till next year!

There's a few piccies of our battle in this thread (in case you want to see just how bad 8' of weeds is! lol!)

PS Some piccies would be great!

Wouldn't it be great if all allotments were cleared before being taken over!! Then again it might remove some of the challenge.
